Gaulm
This is a world boss I designed and scripted for the Season of the Worm Cult. I During the initial design phase, I rapidly prototyped a variety of mechanics and iterated extensively based on internal playtest feedback. These iterations transformed the encounter into something almost entirely different from the original design, resulting in a unique boss fight that stand out from our traditional boss fights and introducing some truly memorable moments.
Here is a break down of some of the mechanics I’m most proud of.
-The boss will spit out Voriplasm (or boogers as I like to call them) around the fight space. An AOE under the Voriplasm will begin to grow and change colors from green to red. Green AOE’s are things players want to stand in while red AOE’s should be avoided. If players walk over the Voriplasm before the AOE turns red they will prevent the Voriplasm from spawning and give the player a damage shield otherwise if not walked over in time the Voriplasm will spawn. This creates a mechanic incentives players to stop what they are doing to interact with the AOE’s and rewards players for engaging with it, otherwise they have to deal with more monsters
-The boss does a roll attack around the arena that is unlike anything any other world boss in the game has creating a truly unique way for it to move around the fight space
